Skype Classic gets last-minute reprieve, avoids impending September 1 retirement

Skype Classic was set to get the ax on September 1, but it just received a stay of execution.

In July, Microsoft announced its plan to retire Skype Classic (version 7) on September 1, and start shifting users to the more modern Skype version 8.0.
