Among The Sleep review: The horrors of being a kid

I understand the comfort that comes from having a bear.

I still have my childhood bear. I'm very attached to him. He's old, his head is falling off and his nose is smooth. He smells like an accumulation of years — musty yet warm, something that fills me up and comforts me.

Among The Sleep is a Kickstarter funded first-person psychological horror game by Norwegian developer Krillbite Studio, and you play as a two year-old child whose bear becomes his comfort and his guide as he searches for memories of his Mom.

The game opens with a scene in the kitchen. It's the little boy's birthday, and cake is certainly on the cards — and walls, if Mom isn't prepared. Kids will touch anything they can get their tiny little hands on. Mom, depending on how you look at it, had the good grace to leave the cake on the table while she goes to open the door. I would have thrown it on the floor to get into the mindset of being a child! Cake - floor! Blocks - Mom's head! Naptime? Neverrrrr!

After a brief argument with someone who may be your dad, we begin to start weaving together a bit of background information about family life. For all intents and purposes, it seems as though Mom and baby (you) live alone. Returning with a gift from Dad (?) who has been given the heave-ho, she takes you to your room and sets the box down and leaves.

Understanding Telus's new Premium Plus financing plan

Spend more to save some money with Telus's new Premium Plus financing option.

Last week, Telus launched a new plan under the Premium Plus name.

At a time when many U.S. carriers are all-in on financing options, Telus's new Premium Plus plan is a hybrid system, providing customers a considerable subsidy in exchange for a two-year contract, along with flexibility in choosing to spend around $10 per month more on a plan in order to spend less for the phone upon purchase.

What is Premium Plus?

Premium Plus is the name of a new type of financing option offered by Telus, the second-largest carrier in Canada. It allows customers, new or existing, to add a small amount of money to their plans per month in exchange for paying less for the phone at the register.

How does it work?

It's actually quite simple. Telus's ordinary Your Choice share plans are priced based on the type of phone you buy: a premium smartphone, like an iPhone 6s, Galaxy S7 or (if they were sold), Lumia 950 XL; a smartphone, like a Moto X Play or other low-cost Android or Windows phones; and BYOD, where you bring your own device.

Premium Plus is interesting because it lives alongside the phone's subsidy, and is completely optional.

How to fix "This app has been blocked for your protection" prompt on Windows 10 PC

How do I run an app that Windows 10 has blocked for my protection?

Yes, it is a good thing that Windows 10 has security features like SmartScreen built in, but sometimes they get in the way. You really want to install this app — you know there's nothing wrong with it — but you're locked out.

SmartScreen acts as a sort of guard dog while you use Windows 10. It will block you from opening some apps if they come from an unknown place or are created by an unknown publisher. Disabling SmartScreen is a good first attempt at running a blocked app as it's a very simple process and will usually get you around the blockade. If you still can't open the app, you'll want to move on to working with admin accounts.

While these steps will get you around the Windows 10 block, you should use them with care. Some apps really are harmful and really will get you in a mess. Only go around the Windows 10 app block if you know for sure that the file is safe. Here's how to get around apps blocked for your protection.

How to disable Windows SmartScreen

This is a good place to start because it doesn't require much time and is relatively easy to do.

Turtle Beach's HyperSound Glass was the most jaw-dropping discovery at E3

E3 is all about the games, sure, but it wasn't a game that totally blew my mind in LA. It was Turtle Beach's HyperSound Glass.

Turtle Beach has patented a method of amplifying and directing audio using ultrasound, and I experienced it for the first time at their E3 2016 booth in Los Angeles.

I entered the meeting room expecting to see a physical prototype only, perhaps some PR speak, and maybe a slick concept video.

Little did I know, I was already experiencing HyperSound.

How to manage local users in Windows 10

Add, remove, or change users from your Windows 10 laptop or computer.

Windows 10 will let you make multiple accounts on your computer, so your friends or family can all share the same PC. You won't have to worry about not being able to control the user accounts because as the system administrator of your Windows 10 computer or laptop, you add, change, and remove accounts as you please.

Just so you're aware, a local user is the terminology Microsoft uses to describe someone who doesn't already have a Microsoft account.

How to create a new local user in Windows 10

Creating an account for a person this way will also create them a Microsoft account, which means in the future they could transfer this account to another computer.

  1. Click on the Start menu. It's the Windows logo in the bottom left of your screen.
  2. Click on Settings.

  3. Click on Accounts.
  4. Click on Family & other users.

Skype Preview updated for Windows 10 Anniversary Preview with minor fixes

For those running Windows 10 on the Slow or Fast Ring, you will want to grab the just-updated Skype Preview app from the Store (listed under 'Get Skype').

Build 11.5.165.0 is now available up from the previous 11.5.155.0 from a few weeks ago and still noticeably behind the leaked universal builds that were also available for Mobile (11.6.72).

Unfortunately, we ran a side by side with the older and newer versions and noted nothing new of interest, although we suppose there could be some plumbing changes to make the app more reliable and compatible with the latest Insider release.

For now, you can go to the Store and get the update. Let us know in comments if you spot anything different.

Should you install the Windows 10 Anniversary Update now?

Now that we are just a month out from the Anniversary Update is it okay to join the Insider program and get the new OS early?

Last night, Microsoft released build 14376 for Fast Ring Insiders on PC and Mobile, and even Slow Ring got bumped to 14372. Then this morning Microsoft announced that the Windows 10 Anniversary Update will be official released on August 2 (and yes, that includes all editions including Mobile).

Clearly, we are on the last leg of the Redstone 1/Anniversary Update development cycle, and many users are now asking if they should take the plunge to Fast Ring. I've been running these releases on a few devices and will share my recommendations and experiences.
