Microsoft 'Windows Core OS' aims to turn Windows 10 into a modular platform for the future

Updated September 29 2017: Several sources have come forward and told us the "Andromeda OS" effort is now internally referred to as "Windows Core OS." We've updated this article to reflect this.

Microsoft is taking the next steps in its "One Windows" vision with an internal project called "Windows Core OS" that turns Windows 10 into a fully modular platform and lays foundations for the future of Windows.

Windows is now over 30 years old, which is beyond ancient in technology years. As a result of this, Windows itself is encumbered by features, functions, and components that some devices today may no longer need. In an industry where new device types are being introduced all the time, Windows itself is too old and heavy to be able to adapt to those new devices (an example of which are smartwatches) quickly enough. As it turns out, Microsoft is aware of this and is working on something internally that looks to solve this problem.

How to delay the Fall Creators Update on Windows 10 S

If you're running Windows 10 S, you can also delay the Fall Creators Update in more than one way, and in this guide, we'll show you how.

Alongside millions of desktops, laptops, and tablets, devices running Windows 10 S like the Surface Laptop and are expected to receive the Fall Creators Update (version 1709) starting October 17. While Microsoft has been getting better on rolling out big updates, bugs and issues aren't uncommon in the early days, so if that's something you'd like to avoid you'll want to delay downloading and installing the update.

If you have a Windows 10 S device, you can use the Settings app to delay the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update in at least two different ways.

Cuphead Xbox One review: A work of art, an acquired taste

Cuphead is launching soon, and after several years in development since the game's announcement, you have to wonder if it's worth all of the hype – well, it is.

Cuphead is a true work of art. Hand-painted backdrops, frame-by-frame hand-drawn sprites, with some of the most imaginative, whimsical, and wacky boss battles ever seen in gaming.

Cuphead is a side-scrolling shooter which pays homage to several classic design principles, across both art and gaming. Contra-style directional shooting, schmup bullet-hell levels, and vaudevillian art coalesces to create a game that assaults your eyes and your brain, with its sheer beauty and diabolical difficulty.

As a game, Cuphead certainly won't appeal to everyone, but it's a shining beacon of creativity in its purest form that ought to be celebrated by gamers everywhere. Here's our Cuphead review.
