How to enable HDR for Xbox One S on 4 series of popular 4K TVs

High Dynamic Range (HDR) features don't always work out of the box. Here's how to use the tech on a selection of popular 4K HDR TVs.

With the most recent revision of Microsoft's flagship home console, the Xbox One S, support was added for High Dynamic Range (HDR) content across both games and video playback. Using this technique, images can be displayed with a higher contrast ratio and a wider gamut of colors. This is limited to a select range of HDR content but when enabled, it makes for a richer viewing experience.

Everything you need to know about enabling 4K HDR on Xbox One S

In order to take advantage of the feature, you'll need to own both an Xbox One S and a 4K HDR-compatible display that's compliant with the HDR 10 standard. While these are becoming more accessible with time, there's still only a relatively small range of TVs that support the feature. If you've yet to pick up a 4K HDR display, we previously rounded up our favorite 4K displays compatible with the Xbox One S.

Once getting the required hardware, there are still a few small set-up steps for both your Xbox One and TV. We broke down the steps to enable HDR on the most popular displays currently used by Xbox One S users.

Sea of Thieves is in development for Xbox Play Anywhere on Xbox One and Windows 10, currently enjoying a closed alpha on the console.

Sea of Thieves is Rare's most ambitious title in a long time, combining a persistent online world across an enormous explorable ocean mass, in an attempt to help players find and experience their inner pirate fantasy.

So far, Rare has shown us how crews of up to four players can band together to interpret maps to seek treasure, shoot it out with angry skeletons, and lay waste to rival ships on the high seas. This latest video gives us a glimpse at how Sea of Thieves is about to get a whole lot stabbier.

Microsoft pushes Windows 10 'Creators Update' to Release Preview ring for Insiders

In case you still had doubts that build 15063 was "RTM", Microsoft has today pushed said build to the Release Preview ring on PC, meaning build 15063 will indeed be the build that rolls out to the public starting April 11.

The Release Preview ring is the final Insider ring before the production channel of updates, where Microsoft is expected to start rolling out build 15063 on April 11. Microsoft announced today that it would allow non-insiders to upgrade to the Creators Update early, starting April 5th via the Update Assistant tool.

If you'd rather wait, you can expect Microsoft to begin the official rollout on April 11, and will rollout in waves over the course of 2017. Microsoft will target a whitelist of newer devices first, and slowly roll out to older devices over the next several months.

If you're an Insider in the Release Preview ring, you can expect to see build 15063 making its way to you now on PC. It'll install much like any other update, but may take a little longer than usual to download and install.

Best Xbox One Role Playing Games (RPGs)

RPG games, or role-playing games, are now a staple of any gamer's library.

Updated March 29, 2017: We added Torment: Tides of Numenera to this list for its amazing writing and sheer openended-ness. And despite the issues, Mass Effect: Andromeda easily makes the cut for its RPG progression, incredible combat, and rich upgrade system.

Set in worlds that are often rich in lore and history, RPG video games' origins stem from classic pencil-and-paper role-playing games such as Dungeons and Dragons. Most borrow terminology and mechanics from those table-top classics. RPGs are centered around a single character or a team, that completes quests and storylines, gains experience in order to level up, and they often have a structured combat system when fighting enemies.

There are plenty of distant worlds and fantastic creatures on Xbox One. Here are a few of our favorites.

Torment: Tides of Numenera

There are few games on this list that can boast such a rich, divergent narrative. "Choice and consequence" is a phrase often lost in the world of marketing-speak nowadays, but for Torment: Tides of Numenera, it's the real deal.
