One takes modular computing to a smaller form factor than it's done before; the other makes itself at home in your living space.

HP today announced a couple of diminutive but powerful new Windows 10 machines — the Pavilion Wave and Elite Slice — two computers that scale down in size but not power, while bringing along looks that could make you keep these boxes out where company can see them.

The HP Pavilion Wave looks more like a speaker than a PC. But it packs computer components and — OK, it also is a speaker, shooting sound 360 degrees from the top that HP says should fill a room. The speaker is tuned by danish audio house Bang & Olufsen.

The Lenovo Miix 510 is an excellent Surface clone — and excellent

Lost in the mix between the announcement of the Lenovo Yoga 910 convertible and the conceptually awesome Lenovo Yoga Book was the Lenovo Miix 510. It was barely a footnote in the presentation and in subsequent hands-on presentations, overshadowed by the showy Yoga 910 sharing the same tables and by an entire 2000-square-foot section deservedly dedicated to the Yoga Book. But just because the expensive and ground-breaking touch devices are impressive doesn't mean Miix 510 isn't deserving of attention, because it is.

Either we need to redefine the term "laptop" or we need to come up with a new term for what this thing is. Because at 21 inches and an untold but incredibly hefty number of pounds, the Acer Predator 21X is not a gaming laptop you should ever consider using on your lap. Maybe on a very sturdy oak table, but never your lap, lest you're in the mood to make your feet go numb. This thing is the laptop version of beast mode: Impractical, overpowered, and oh so awesome.

Hands-on with the bonkers-thin Acer Swift 7 ultrabook

What do you get when you put dual GPUs, eye-tracking tech, five fans, and a curved 21-inch display in a laptop? Well, it's not really a "lap" top anymore, is it?

How thin is too thin? Acer's getting closer to finding the answer with the super-thin Swift 7 laptop.

Acer has really upped their hardware game in recent years, and nowhere is that more clear than with the ultra-thin Acer Swift 7. This ultrabook, the world's new thinnest laptop at just 9.98mm thick when closed, is the culmination of Acer's engineering progress. Even with this thinness, Acer's still managed to make a laptop that's powerful enough to not be a slouch in everyday performance.

So let's talk a bit about this laptop. At less than 1cm thick it's the thinnest laptop we've seen yet, but Acer made a point not to compromise too much in the design. It packs a 7th-generation Intel Core i5 processor, 256GB SSD, and 8GB of RAM, along with advanced 2x2 Wi-Fi 802.11ac and a pair of USB-C ports. That's all wrapped in a machined aluminum shell that's colored gold on the base and black on the display — which, by the way, is a Full HD 13.3-inch IPS panel (non-touch) covered in a sheet of Gorilla Glass 3.
